About Us
Walking holidays in the south of England
A little about us
We’re no ordinary provider of walking holidays. Read on to see what makes us special.
Walking Holiday has its roots in Walk the Thames, a family business run by Richard and Elsa who live close to Mapledurham Lock, the exact half-way point along the Thames Path.
Feedback from their walkers made them soon realised they had created something special: self-guided walking holidays run by locals. From the start, they decided to run the baggage transfers themselves. This brought them in close contact with their walkers and accommodation partners. There’s nothing quite like popping in and out of hotels to find out how they’re operating.
So they decided to team up with other locals to bring more walks in the south of England. Hence Walking Holiday, the umbrella for all their walks.
We have a simple way of researching our walks: we walk them! And we try to stay current by going back over the walks during the off-season. That will explain why some of our photos on this website are winter shots.
We were once asked if we can organise a walk along the Danube. We have no plans to expand beyond our geographic range. If we can’t get to you in 90 minutes, we can’t support you.
We are a small team:
Richard is jack of all trades;
Elsa looks after the accounts and together with Richard looks after the bookings
You might see Paul driving Bertie, our branded Berlingo. Paul has been a driver all his life and used to work for Toyota
Jim, when not competing in Iron Man competitions, is an additional driver
John can turn his hand to a number of trades: guiding, driving, and creating walks.
Pogi is the unsung hero of the team. You’ll usually find him sitting alongside Richard watching the south of England go by.
